Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has called upon the nation to observe Martyred Intellectuals Day on December 14 and Great Victory Day on December 16 with due dignity, solemnity, and respect. In a statement issued on Saturday (December 13), he said these two days are eternal symbols of sacrifice, struggle, and national pride in the history of the nation. Remembering those who laid down their lives for the country’s independence and sovereignty, he said their contributions would always be recalled with deep respect and gratitude. He also prayed for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyred intellectuals and the valiant freedom fighters who were martyred in the Liberation War, seeking mercy for them from Almighty Allah.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further expressed profound respect for the brave freedom fighters who took part in the Liberation War of 1971 to liberate the motherland. At the same time, he prayed for the forgiveness of those who were martyred during the July–August mass uprising, extended condolences to their families, and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
He said the nation is observing Martyred Intellectuals Day and Victory Day at a time when fascist rule has ended through the united movement of students and the general public. He noted that people have been freed from more than 15 years of repression, enforced disappearances, killings, and misrule. According to him, the people of the country now aspire to peace, stability, and prosperity.
However, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman warned that domestic and foreign fascist forces have not yet ceased their activities and are continuing efforts to destabilize the country through conspiracies and deceptive tactics. As evidence, he cited the brutal attack on Sharif Osman Hadi on December 12.
In this context, he urged the people of the country to collectively resist all anti-national conspiracies and plots. As a reflection of the commitment to safeguard the country’s independence and sovereignty and to establish people’s rights, he called upon all units of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the nation at large to observe Martyred Intellectuals Day on December 14 and Great Victory Day on December 16 through discussions, rallies, and prayer gatherings, maintaining due respect and dignity.
At the conclusion of the statement, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman extended his heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the nation on the occasion of Great Victory Day and prayed for the overall happiness, prosperity, and welfare of the country.
