Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that conspiracies are still continuing, making the upcoming election far from easy. He remarked that recent incidents are proving that his earlier concerns are beginning to come true.Tarique Rahman made the comments on Saturday evening while joining a BNP-organised workshop virtually from London. He said that various incidents over the past few days, particularly the shooting at a BNP candidate in Chattogram, are part of an ongoing conspiracy.
He warned that failure to reduce internal differences and remain united could push the country towards destruction. Referring to BNP’s past role, Tarique Rahman said the party has repeatedly rescued the country from crises—sometimes under the leadership of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and at other times under former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
Expressing concern, he said that according to information from various sources, the conspiracies may not stop here and the situation could worsen further. However, he emphasized that there is no room for fear or retreat. Instead, BNP leaders and activists must inspire courage among the people and unite pro-democracy forces.
“The more united we become, the faster the conspirators will be forced to retreat, and the election will be held at any cost,” he said, adding that only the BNP has the strength to resist such conspiracies.
Tarique Rahman also urged party members to remain alert following incidents of gunfire targeting BNP candidates in Chattogram and Dhaka.
The workshop, titled “Plan for Nation-Building,” was held at the Krishibid Institution auditorium in Farmgate. During the event, Tarique Rahman outlined BNP’s plans on canal excavation, health cards, farmer cards, education reform, tackling unemployment, information technology development, and preventing air and water pollution.
He said the time has come to move beyond the mindset of “what have I gained” and instead focus on what can be done for the country and the nation. Working for the nation, he added, would ensure a safe and prosperous future for the next generation.
Tarique Rahman further said this is not the time to stay at home, but to take to the field alongside the people. “Ultimately, we will meet in the electoral arena,” he said.
The workshop was presided over by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and conducted by Joint Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel.
