“Opponents of ’71 Want Votes; They Are an Uncivilized Party”:Mirza Abbas

BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has criticized political parties that opposed the Liberation War of 1971, saying they are now seeking votes from the people. He described both the Awami League and Jamaat-e-Islami as “uncivilized” parties. Abbas made these remarks on Wednesday (3 December) at a medical camp inauguration held at Siddheshwari Balu Ground in Dhaka. He stated that those who were against the country during the Liberation War are now using religion to mislead people, but such tactics cannot deceive the citizens.

Abbas further added that with the national elections approaching, some political parties are attempting to instill fear among the general public by misusing religion. He noted that some statements have gone to the extent of threatening people with heaven and hell, or even violence, if they do not vote.

He also reminded that during the 1971 Liberation War, the collaborators known as Razakars and Al-Badr handed over Bangladeshi citizens, including women, to the Pakistani forces. Today, those same groups are seeking votes and making grandiose claims.

Abbas criticized Jamaat for following Mawdudism and not adhering to the true spirit of Islam, stating that they merely wear the façade of being Muslim. He urged the nation to remain vigilant against the activities of such parties.
