The identity of a teenage girl whose body was found stuffed inside a sack in the Nirala Prantika Residential Area of Khulna has been confirmed. The deceased has been identified as 16-year-old Arfana Hossain Nirjona, a tenth-grade student at Khulna Iqbal Nagar Secondary School. She was the daughter of Md. Alim Hossain Akash, a resident of Bashupara Banshtala under Sonadanga Model Police Station.
According to Nirjona's mother, Arifa Yasmin Sima, she identified her daughter's body on Thursday after seeing photographs of the recovered body circulating on social media. She then went to the morgue at Khulna Medical College Hospital, where she formally identified the body.
Earlier, at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, local residents discovered the sack containing the body in front of a seven-story building on Road No. 3 in the Nirala Prantika Residential Area and informed the police. Officers recovered the body and sent it to the Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Police have since launched an investigation into the suspected murder.
Speaking about the incident, Arifa Yasmin Sima said that Nirjona had left home at around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. After noticing her from the rooftop, family members called her back home. However, later that afternoon, while everyone in the house was asleep, she quietly left again without informing anyone. She never returned.
Sima further stated that before leaving, Nirjona had written a note saying, "Please do not look for me." Later, after neighbors showed them photographs of the recovered body circulating on social media, the family went to the hospital and confirmed that it was Nirjona.
According to family members, on April 21, Nirjona had eloped and married Mostafizur Rahman Rony, son of Atiar Rahman from Ajgara village in Palerhat, Terokhada Upazila. Three days after the marriage, she called her family and informed them that she was doing well. However, the family later learned of allegations regarding Rony's character. Approximately 17 days later, Nirjona was brought back to her parental home.
Arifa Yasmin Sima alleges that Rony continued to maintain contact with Nirjona even after she returned home. She suspects that he lured her out of the house, murdered her, and dumped her body in the Nirala Prantika Residential Area. However, police have not yet officially commented on these allegations, and no evidence has been publicly disclosed linking any individual to the crime.
Sima also said that Nirjona had previously married Moniruzzaman Monir, son of Eklasur from Baraipara in Fakirhat Upazila. However, she returned to her parents' home after spending only one day there.
The victim's family is preparing to initiate legal proceedings by filing a case with Khulna Sadar Police Station. Police said the exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report is completed. Investigators are examining physical evidence, questioning relevant individuals, and analyzing technical and digital information to uncover the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible.
The discovery of the teenage girl's body in a sack has sparked widespread concern and outrage in the local community. Residents have called for a swift, impartial investigation and the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible for the crime.
