Student Status Ends, Shibir Bids Farewell to Nine Central Leaders

Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has officially bid farewell to nine of its central leaders, including Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Vice President (VP) Sadiq Kayem, following the completion of their student status. The decision was made during a by-election of the organization's Central Executive Council held on Monday (July 13). The council's second general session is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

According to organizational sources, maintaining student status is one of the fundamental requirements for holding a leadership position in Islami Chhatra Shibir under its constitution. As the terms of these leaders as students have come to an end, they have stepped down from their central responsibilities in accordance with the organization's rules. The by-election was held to fill the vacant positions.

The nine outgoing central leaders are: Sadiq Kayem, Central Secretary for International Affairs and DUCSU Vice President (VP); Mu'tasim Billah Shahedi, Central Media Secretary; Sharif Mahmud, Secretary for Human Resource Development (HRD); Muhibur Rahman Muhib, Student Rights Secretary; Riazul Islam, Planning and Development Secretary; Nurul Huda, Business Education Secretary; Arafat Hossain Milon, Library Secretary; Habibur Rahman Arman, Debate Secretary; and Shahin Ahmed, Dawah Secretary.

Organizational leaders said that although the outgoing members will no longer hold central executive responsibilities, they may continue contributing to the organization in advisory and ideological capacities.

Sources further said that the process of electing new leaders to the vacant posts has already been completed through the by-election. However, the names of the newly elected office-bearers had not been officially announced at the time of writing. The organization is expected to formally unveil the new leadership following the second general session of the Executive Council.

According to party insiders, such leadership transitions are a routine organizational process. By replacing leaders whose student status has ended, the organization seeks to ensure continuity and promote a new generation of leadership.

It is worth noting that Sadiq Kayem was recently elected Vice President (VP) of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) while also serving as the Central Secretary for International Affairs of Islami Chhatra Shibir. Although his student status has ended and he has stepped down from his organizational position, matters relating to his constitutional responsibilities as DUCSU Vice President will continue to be governed by the relevant rules and regulations.

The Executive Council's second general session is expected to approve the by-election results, introduce the newly elected leaders, and outline the organization's future plans and priorities.
