PM Tarique Rahman Promotes Inclusive Development

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that the government is committed to moving the country forward by ensuring equal participation of people of all faiths, without discrimination. He also announced that, with the continued support of the people, the government's Family Card program will be expanded across the country.

He made these remarks on Monday at around 11:00 a.m. while participating in a tree plantation and canal excavation program in Gaurnadi, Barishal.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of tree planting and proper care for preserving the country's natural beauty.

"Just as parents feel immense joy watching their children grow up, you will experience the same happiness when the trees you plant grow and flourish," he said.

The Prime Minister noted that Bangladesh currently does not have the number of trees required to maintain a healthy ecological balance. To address this, he announced an ambitious plan to plant 250 million trees nationwide over the next five years.

He further stated that climate change has significantly altered rainfall patterns, resulting in heavier rainfall than in previous years. Therefore, he stressed that extensive tree plantation is essential to maintaining environmental balance.

"We must take responsibility for improving our own country. No one from outside will come and do it for us," he added.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister unveiled the new slogan for the National Tree Plantation Campaign:

"Let's Beautify the Nation Through Tree Plantation—Bangladesh Comes First."

Earlier on Monday morning, the Prime Minister departed for Barishal by road as part of his official visit. During the tour, he participated in separate tree plantation programs along the newly excavated Sarikal Canal in Batajore Union of Gaurnadi, at the Trish Godown Memorial Site in Barishal district headquarters, and in the adjacent Sagardi area.
