Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the tragic deaths of 16 people in a devastating fire that broke out at a garment factory and chemical warehouse in Shialbari, Mirpur, in the capital. In a condolence message, the Chief Adviser prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and extended his heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families.

“This tragic loss of innocent lives is deeply painful and heartbreaking. We stand in solidarity with the families during this time of mourning,” Dr. Yunus said.

He also wished a swift recovery for those injured in the incident and directed the concerned authorities to investigate the cause of the fire and ensure all necessary assistance to the victims and their families.

Meanwhile, several people remain missing following the blaze. Relatives are frantically searching hospitals and the fire site in hopes of finding their loved ones, raising fears that the death toll may rise further.

According to the Fire Service, as of 7 p.m., the fire at the garment factory and chemical warehouse was still not under control, though firefighters continued their relentless efforts to douse the flames.

Crowds of anxious relatives and curious onlookers have gathered at the scene, while army personnel, alongside the fire service, are working to manage the overall situation.
