Thakurgaon: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that the sooner elections are held, the quicker the country’s crisis can be resolved. “There is no alternative to democracy in this country. Democracy itself is the only solution. The nation’s political and economic future depends on the upcoming election,” he said.He made the remarks on Tuesday (October 14) while speaking as the chief guest at an extended meeting of BNP’s Sadar Upazila and Ruhia Thana units held at the District Shilpakala Academy Hall.

The Secretary General emphasized the need for careful and cautious political steps, warning that mistakes could lead to falling into the hands of extremists. “We do not want to witness extremism again,” he added.

Mirza Fakhrul also reflected on the country’s recent history, saying, “After the monstrous misrule, democracy has been restored through the mass uprising of students and citizens. Many have endured severe oppression and faced imprisonment in false cases. Now we can breathe freely, and our leaders and activists can sleep peacefully at night. I express my gratitude to everyone who participated in this mass movement.”

The meeting was attended by Thakurgaon District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Poigam Ali, Sadar President Abdul Hamid, General Secretary Mahabub Hossain Tuhin, and other party leaders and activists.
