Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Central Vice Chairman and former Home Minister Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, MP, has said that democracy has been restored in Bangladesh repeatedly through the BNP’s efforts. He made the remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting held at the Mirzaganj Upazila Parishad Auditorium in Patuakhali on Wednesday, September 2, marking the founding anniversary of the BNP.

Altaf Hossain Chowdhury said, “Had the BNP not been founded, democracy would not have been born in the country. Democracy has been restored repeatedly through the BNP.”

He said the BNP had played an important role in establishing democracy and people’s rights in the past and would continue to work to safeguard democracy in the future.

The meeting was presided over by Anwar Hossain Sikder, Vice President of the Mirzaganj Upazila BNP.

Among the special guests were Maksud Ahmed Bayezid Panna, former Vice President of the Patuakhali District BNP; Md. Zafar Imam Sikder, former Vice President of Barisal Brojomohan (BM) College; and Advocate Wahid Sarwar Kalam, former acting General Secretary of the Patuakhali District BNP.

Advocate Anisur Rahman, former Vice President of the District Chhatra Dal, and Jahangir Alam Faraji, former General Secretary of the Mirzaganj Upazila BNP, also addressed the meeting.

The event was attended by Aminul Islam Khokon, Vice President of the Upazila BNP; Shahin Chowdhury Pasha, President of Madhabkhali Union BNP; former Joint General Secretary Hasibul Gani Munir Khandaker; former Office Secretary Kaifur Rahman Zakir; former Jubo Dal President Nur Hossain Mridha; former District BNP member Firoz Alam Goldar; Jubo Dal President Gazi Rashed Shams; General Secretary Gazi Ataur Rahman; and Volunteer Dal President Md. Rafiqul Islam, among other leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organizations.

The speakers discussed the history of the BNP’s establishment, the party’s role in the country’s democratic movements, and the current political situation. They also emphasized the need to further strengthen and organize the party at the grassroots level.

At the end of the meeting, BNP leaders and activists pledged to work together on the occasion of the party’s founding anniversary. Local leaders also stressed the importance of accelerating the party’s organizational activities and strengthening communication with ordinary people.
