Rumors Grow Over New Jubo Dal Committee as Leadership Aspirants Intensify Lobbying

The restructuring of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) affiliated and associate bodies has gained momentum as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots-level organizational activities and enhance overall party dynamism. In this context, discussions and speculation have intensified within party circles regarding the formation of a new central and metropolitan committee of the Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal. Alongside these developments, aspiring leaders have reportedly increased their lobbying and political maneuvering to secure key positions in the anticipated new leadership structure.

According to party sources, the BNP may announce the new Jubo Dal central committee and committees for the two Dhaka city units ahead of the party’s eighth national council. However, uncertainty remains among activists as a proposed full-fledged committee list has already been submitted to the party high command, creating confusion over whether a new committee will be formed immediately or not.

At present, the partial committee formed on July 9, 2024, is being led by President Abdus Moin Munna and General Secretary Nurul Islam Nayan. However, following Nayan’s election as a Member of Parliament, he has become increasingly occupied with his constituency responsibilities, limiting his ability to dedicate sufficient time to organizational activities. This situation has reignited discussions regarding a possible leadership reshuffle.

Party insiders and grassroots activists say the prolonged delay in forming a full committee has created dissatisfaction and instability within the organization. With a large number of aspirants competing for positions, internal discipline and chain of command have weakened in several areas, negatively affecting organizational activities at the grassroots level.

Meanwhile, although discussions regarding a new committee are ongoing, allegations have emerged that the current leadership is simultaneously attempting to advance the process of forming a full committee. According to party sources, two proposed full committees—one consisting of 151 members and another of 251 members—have already been submitted to the party high command. However, no final decision has yet been made.

Several former leaders of the Jubo Dal and its student wing believe that a full committee would provide long-overdue recognition to long-serving and dedicated activists. However, there is growing discussion about who will secure top leadership positions, while uncertainty persists regarding the future roles of several current senior leaders.

A reliable party source has indicated that the proposal for a full committee has currently been put on hold. The BNP leadership reportedly aims to prioritize qualified, dedicated, and young leaders in restructuring its affiliated organizations. This approach is expected to open opportunities for previously overlooked leaders in the future.

Many Jubo Dal activists argue that the lack of a full committee for an extended period has slowed down organizational progress. They warn that continued delays may further weaken the structure, potentially affecting the BNP’s broader political strength. As a result, demands for swift restructuring under new leadership have intensified.

Meanwhile, several former leaders are being discussed as potential contenders for top positions. These include former joint general secretaries, vice presidents, and leaders from Dhaka metropolitan units. Their names have surfaced based on their involvement in past movements, imprisonment records, and overall political experience.

Former Jubo Dal leaders argue that the current political environment demands new leadership capable of revitalizing the organization. They emphasize that experienced and dedicated individuals should be entrusted with leadership responsibilities to restore organizational momentum.

On the other hand, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has stated that committees whose tenure has expired will be reorganized gradually. He added that dedicated and tested leaders will be given priority, and restructuring of organizational bodies will be completed ahead of the party’s upcoming national council.

Overall, the discussions surrounding the formation of a new Jubo Dal committee have generated both optimism and uncertainty within the organization. While aspirants remain active in their efforts, the final decision from the party high command is still awaited, as the organization stands at a critical juncture of potential leadership transition.
