Chandpur, May 16: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that rebuilding the country and restructuring the state are the sole goals of the current government.Speaking at a public gathering after inaugurating the re-excavation program of the Khordda Canal at Waruk Bazar in Tamta South Union under Shahrasti upazila of Chandpur on Saturday afternoon, the Prime Minister said, “From today, our work will be only one — nation building and state reconstruction. Let this be our pledge.”He further stated, “We do not only want to dream. We want to adopt plans that will benefit the people of the country once implemented.”
The Prime Minister said the government aims to undertake practical development plans that will move the country forward and improve the living standards of its people.
Referring to the canal excavation initiative, he said that the program was originally introduced 48 years ago by late President Ziaur Rahman. “Let us all pledge to move the country forward together,” he added.
Quoting from the Holy Quran, the Prime Minister said, “Allah says in the Holy Quran that He helps those who help themselves.”
Highlighting the importance of canal excavation, he said, “If this canal is not excavated, farmers will not get water. But if we excavate the canal, farmers will benefit from proper irrigation. Likewise, if the 40 crore hands of 20 crore people of Bangladesh work together, Insha’Allah, we will be able to transform Bangladesh into a dignified nation in the world.”
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling the promises made to the people before the election. “We will gradually implement all the commitments we made to the জনগণ before the election,” he said.
Describing the people as the source of BNP’s political strength, he said, “We, who belong to the party founded by martyr President Ziaur Rahman and led by Begum Khaleda Zia, firmly believe that the people are the source of all political power. Your strength is our strength. As long as you stand beside us, our mission to build the nation will continue.”
Calling on everyone to work together for the country’s progress, the Prime Minister said, “Let our pledge today be: ‘We will work, and Bangladesh will come first.’”
Earlier, at around 2:40 pm, the Prime Minister arrived at the Khordda Canal site in Waruk Bazar and formally inaugurated the re-excavation program by unveiling a plaque. He later joined the excavation work by digging soil with a spade and also planted trees along the canal bank.
Among others present at the event were Disaster Management Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, local Member of Parliament Mominul Haque, Chandpur District BNP Member Secretary Salim Ullah Selim, Shahrasti Upazila BNP President Ayat Ali Bhuiyan, and Vice President Abu Yusuf Rupom.
