PM Directs Women MPs on Development Work

The Prime Minister has issued detailed guidance to women Members of Parliament (MPs) on how and where to carry out their development responsibilities, emphasizing that reserved seat MPs, who do not represent specific geographic constituencies, must work in a structured and coordinated manner across different areas. Newly elected MPs have expressed their intention to follow the Prime Minister’s directives in their future activities and contribute actively to the implementation of the government’s development agenda.

The instructions were given during a meeting held on Monday (May 18) at the Secretariat between the Prime Minister and women MPs elected from reserved seats under the ruling party. After the meeting, BNP Standing Committee member and reserved seat MP Selima Rahman briefed journalists about the discussions.

She stated that the Prime Minister, in her first formal meeting with women MPs from reserved seats, directed them to play an active role in implementing the government’s development plans. According to her, the meeting was primarily arranged as a courtesy call and a platform to express gratitude to the Prime Minister.

During the discussion, the women MPs shared their responsibilities, scope of work, and future action plans. Selima Rahman noted that since reserved seat MPs do not represent specific constituencies, the Prime Minister provided clear guidance on how they should identify areas and carry out their development work effectively. She added that the MPs will now operate according to these instructions.

She further said that the Prime Minister emphasized that, as political leaders and lawmakers, serving the welfare of the people remains the foremost responsibility. At the same time, importance was given to maintaining national unity and party cohesion.

Highlighting the government’s stance on women’s empowerment, Selima Rahman said the Prime Minister is highly committed to advancing women’s participation and empowerment. She added that women MPs will work as key partners in implementing government initiatives in this regard.

She also stated that, in line with the government’s vision of rebuilding Bangladesh and reducing inequality, women MPs will play an active role in implementing development plans and ensuring inclusive progress.

The meeting was attended by several women MPs, including Shirin Sultana, Bilkis Islam, Sultana Ahmed, Shammi Akhter, Arifa Sultana Ruma, Nadia Pathan Papon, Sanjida Islam Tuli, Selina Sultana Nishita, Shaukat Ara Akhter Urmi, among others from the BNP parliamentary group.
