A total of 198 homicides have occurred in the capital over the past 10 months, averaging about 20 incidents per month. The figure also includes the recovery of the body of a newborn, which is counted as a homicide case.The information was confirmed on Tuesday (18 November) by Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). According to him, Dhaka records an average of 19–20 murder-related incidents every month. Cases arise from family disputes, previous enmity, turf conflicts, and even the recovery of newborn bodies—each of which is registered as a murder case.

He described the number of incidents as “tolerable,” considering the population size and socioeconomic context of the Dhaka metropolitan area. He added that law enforcement has recently managed to solve most of the reported cases and bring the suspects under legal action.
