A fire broke out at Standard Phoenix Oil Limited in Bagher Bazar, Gazipur, on Wednesday (19 November) around 1:00 pm. The blaze was brought under control by 4:00 pm after nearly three and a half hours of efforts by seven fire service units.According to sources, the fire started suddenly in the factory around noon. Initially, the factory’s security personnel tried to control it, but as the situation worsened, the fire service was alerted. Units from Joydebpur, Sripur, and surrounding areas—seven units in total—rushed to the scene to contain the blaze. The presence of flammable materials and raw ingredients used for coil production caused the fire to spread rapidly and take a severe form.
Factory worker Khairul Islam said that he had left the factory around 12:30 pm for lunch and was informed about the fire while at home. He and his colleagues returned immediately without eating to assist the fire service in controlling the blaze.
Local residents reported widespread panic as the factory is located near a petrol pump and a densely populated area. Many moved their belongings to safer locations. The heat from the fire also damaged the windows and doors of a nearby building.
