Mia Golam Parwar Calls for Acceptance of Teachers’ Legitimate Demands

Mia Golam Parwar, Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former Member of Parliament, has expressed concern over students being injured during the ongoing protests by government primary school teachers demanding the implementation of Grade-10 salaries and three other demands, amid police attacks, use of sound grenades, and water cannons. In a statement sent to the media on Sunday (9 November), he condemned the incidents. Mia Golam Parwar said that it is the government’s responsibility to consider the teachers’ three-point demand reasonably and accept it. He described the attacks on protesting teachers, as well as the use of sound grenades and water cannons, as unfortunate and distressing, emphasizing that teachers must be treated with tolerance and respect.

He further stated that the indefinite strike by teachers has caused concern among students, parents, and the nation as a whole. The disruption of the education system, especially before the annual examinations, will primarily affect young students.

The Jamaat Secretary General urged the government to move away from a rigid stance, consider the teachers’ legitimate demands with empathy, initiate discussions, and take steps to promptly end the movement, ensuring teachers return to their classes.
