The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has suspended its nomination for the Madaripur-1 (Shibchar) constituency. The decision was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday (November 4) by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. In the statement, Rizvi said that on Monday (November 3), BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the names of party nominees for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan. Among the 237 constituencies announced, Kamal Zaman Mollah was named as the nominee for Madaripur-1 (Shibchar). However, due to unavoidable reasons, the nomination for this constituency and the name of the nominated candidate have been put on hold. Earlier on Monday (November 3) afternoon, violent protests broke out in the Madaripur-1 constituency following the announcement of the BNP candidate. Supporters of nomination-deprived aspirant Sajjad Hossain Lavlu Siddiqui staged demonstrations, blocked roads, vandalized vehicles, and set fires after Kamal Zaman Mollah was named as the party’s potential candidate.
