Religious Promises Misleading Voters, Says BNP’s Mosharraf Hossain

BNP Central Executive Committee Training Secretary and BNP’s preliminary nominee for Patuakhali-4 constituency, ABM Mosharraf Hossain, has alleged that candidates with the hand fan and scales symbols are misleading the public and seeking votes by offering promises of heaven. He stated, “There is no Awami League anymore. Once, many Awami League activists could be seen around, but they have all fled with their leader Sheikh Hasina. Now, there is no major political party in the country except the BNP.”Mosharraf added that if the BNP comes to power, Tarique Rahman will become the Prime Minister, and Khaleda Zia will contest the election, become an MP, and lead the party.

He made these remarks on Thursday (November 6) while addressing the biennial conference of the Kalatala Upazila Mahila Dal as the chief guest at the Nilganj Union Parishad field in Kalapara upazila.

Campaigning for the BNP’s paddy sheaf election symbol, Mosharraf said, “Candidates with the hand fan and scales symbols are misleading people by promising heaven in exchange for votes. We must unite against these symbols.”

He further claimed that not only in Kalapara, but across Bangladesh, candidates contesting with the hand fan symbol will not win in any constituency. “Insha’Allah, the paddy sheaf will be victorious in the upcoming election,” he added.

The event was attended by Humayun Sikder, President of Kalapara Upazila BNP; Md. Jafruzzaman Khokon Hawlader, Senior Vice-President; Advocate Hafizur Rahman Chunnu, General Secretary; Gazi Md. Faruk, President of the Kalapara Municipality BNP; Musa Tawhid Nannu Munshi, General Secretary; Md. Moniruzzaman Monir, Member; and Md. Nurul Kabir Jhunu, Vice-President of the Upazila BNP.

The conference was inaugurated by Alma Akter Lili, President of the Kalapara Upazila Mahila Dal, while Mst. Nargis Akter, General Secretary of the Upazila Mahila Dal, served as the keynote speaker.

Speakers at the event emphasized the need for the Mahila Dal to play a stronger and more organized role in restoring democracy in the country and ensuring women’s participation in politics. They also urged all members to work together to keep the party united and active at the grassroots level.
