The Advisory Council of the interim government has urged the allied political parties of the anti-fascist movement to initiate discussions among themselves to resolve differences over the proposed referendum and several recommendations contained in the July National Charter. The council called on the parties to provide a unified directive to the government as soon as possible—preferably within the next week.
The call was made during a meeting of the Advisory Council held on Monday at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka. The meeting observed that a unified position from the allied parties would help facilitate the government’s decision-making process. It also underscored that, given the current political context, there is no scope for delay and urged all concerned to act with urgency.
The council reaffirmed the government’s commitment to holding the next parliamentary elections in the first half of February 2026.
Following the meeting, Dr. Asif Nazrul, Adviser to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, briefed reporters at a press conference held at the Chief Adviser’s Office.
He said the meeting discussed three key issues:
-
The proposed July National Charter formulated by the Consensus Commission,
-
The finalisation of the Constitutional Reform Order, and
-
The arrangements for conducting the national referendum.
The council noted that despite extensive deliberations within the Consensus Commission, differences of opinion persist on several reform proposals. It also expressed concern over disagreements among political parties regarding both the timing and the content of the proposed referendum.
In this context, the council stressed the need for urgent decisions—based on the Consensus Commission’s recommendations—on the referendum’s timing, subject matter, and the unresolved issues highlighted in the July Charter.
Adviser for Road Transport Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Industry Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, and Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam were also present at the press conference.
