BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy has warned that if the party chooses the path of protest over the July Charter issue, the current government will not be able to survive. He said the BNP is currently exercising patience, hoping for a free and fair election under the existing government.Speaking to reporters on Sunday (November 2) after placing floral tributes at the grave of late President Ziaur Rahman at Zia Udyan on behalf of the newly formed full committee of the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB), Gayeshwar made the remarks.
“The final version of the July Charter contains many inconsistencies and errors,” Gayeshwar said. “This issue amounts to a deception of the nation, and the people have already realized it. Yet, the Chief Adviser and the government remain silent.”
He added, “If we take to the streets, it’s doubtful whether the government can survive. Still, we prefer maintaining peace and political stability. The government must make the right decision now.”
Commenting on remarks made by various political parties about the BNP, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, “It is evident that some are trying to discredit the BNP because they see a strong possibility of the party returning to power in the coming days. We do not consider anyone our rival.”
Among those present were DAB Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Farhad Halim Donar, President Professor Dr. Harun-or-Rashid, Secretary General Dr. Md. Zahirul Islam Shakil, Vice President Professor Dr. Abul Kenan, Treasurer Dr. Mehedi Hasan, Senior Joint Secretary General Dr. A.K.M. Khalekuzzaman Dipu, and Office Secretary Md. Erfan Ahmed Sohel.
