Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 at 2 pm today (February 26) as the chief guest. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will also present the Bangla Academy Literary Award 2025 at the opening ceremony.The fair will remain open from 2:00pm to 9:00pm on regular days, with no new visitors allowed to enter after 8:30pm. On holidays, the fair will begin at 11:00am and continue until 9:00pm.The fair will continue until March 15. Bangla Academy President Professor Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq will preside over the event, while Bangla Academy Director General Professor Mohammad Azam will deliver the welcome address.
Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury and State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam are expected to attend as special guests.
A total of 549 publishing houses are participating this year, including 81 at the Bangla Academy premises and 468 at the Suhrawardy Udyan venue. The total number of units is 1,018. Last year, 708 publishing houses participated with 1,084 units.
To ensure security and discipline, archways will be installed at entry and exit points, and police, RAB, Ansar and intelligence agencies will be on duty. CCTV cameras have also been installed throughout the area.
