High Expectations for a Landslide Victory for Goyeshwar Roy in Dhaka-3 Constituency

Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, a veteran politician, freedom fighter and a seasoned leader of Bangladesh’s political arena, remains a widely recognized and respected figure. A firm believer in the spirit of the Liberation War, Roy is contesting the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election as the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) nominee from the Dhaka-3 constituency, which covers South Keraniganj. His active presence on the campaign trail and decades-long political contribution have generated renewed optimism among local residents. During visits to various unions and wards of Keraniganj, conversations with voters reveal strong grassroots support in favor of Goyeshwar Roy. According to general voters, his consistent engagement with people’s everyday concerns, long-standing commitment to local development, and unwavering role in political movements have placed him at the peak of popularity in the constituency.

Local resident Yakub Ali said,
“Goyeshwar Roy has been working for the people of Keraniganj for many years. Whether it is roads, communication, or area-based problems, he has made significant contributions. He stood by us in both good and difficult times. That is why we will vote for him again.”

Another voter expressed confidence, stating,
“If the election is held in a free and fair manner, there is no doubt that Goyeshwar Chandra Roy will secure a landslide victory.”

Transformation of Keraniganj Through Development

Once neglected and plagued by severe waterlogging, Keraniganj has undergone a visible transformation over the years. In the past, monsoon seasons would submerge roads, communication systems were weak, and daily life was extremely difficult due to canals, marshlands, and unpaved roads. Today, Keraniganj stands as a rapidly developing area influenced by modern urbanization.

Local residents believe that Goyeshwar Roy’s long-term political efforts and development-oriented vision played a notable role in this transformation. The area now boasts paved roads, improved transport facilities, residential buildings, and commercial establishments. Enhanced connectivity has significantly improved the overall quality of life for the people.

An elderly resident remarked,
“We have witnessed the change in Keraniganj with our own eyes. Boats were once our only means of transportation; now we travel by vehicles. Among those who have worked consistently behind this transformation, Goyeshwar Roy is one of the key figures.”

A Journey Through Politics

Born on November 1, 1951, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy began his political career in the 1970s as a member of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASAD). In 1978, he joined the BNP, where he quickly emerged as an influential organizer and leader.

From 1991 to 1996, during the BNP-led government, Roy served as the State Minister for Environment and Forests. During his tenure, he gained recognition for his role in environmental protection and sustainable management of natural resources.

Throughout his long political career, he has remained actively involved in street movements, organizational activities, and campaigns aimed at restoring democracy. Currently, he serves as a member of the BNP’s highest policymaking body, the National Standing Committee.

Struggles, Movements, and Legal Challenges

Like many prominent opposition leaders, Goyeshwar Roy has faced numerous legal challenges throughout his political life. He has been imprisoned multiple times in connection with several cases, including a sabotage case filed in 2015. BNP leaders and activists have repeatedly described these cases as politically motivated.

In October 2025, he was acquitted by the court in a long-standing corruption case, a verdict that political analysts believe has further strengthened his position. At present, he is out on bail and actively participating in election-related activities with renewed determination.

Election Campaign and Core Message

With the 13th National Parliamentary Election scheduled for February 12, 2026, Goyeshwar Roy has intensified his campaign across the Dhaka-3 constituency. Through public rallies, street meetings, and courtyard gatherings, he has been emphasizing the restoration of voting rights, the reestablishment of democracy, and the continuation of development initiatives.

In his speeches, he repeatedly underscores that a free, fair, and credible election will allow the people themselves to deliver the verdict of change.

Family and Political Continuity

Goyeshwar Chandra Roy’s ancestral home is located in Keraniganj, Dhaka. His family is also actively involved in politics. His daughter-in-law, Nipun Roy Chowdhury, is a member of the BNP Executive Committee and currently serves as the President of South Keraniganj Thana BNP. Party leaders believe her involvement has further strengthened the party’s organizational structure at the grassroots level.

A Contest Shaped by Expectations

Taken together, Goyeshwar Roy’s vast political experience, history of struggle, contribution to development, and close relationship with local residents position him as a formidable candidate in the Dhaka-3 constituency.

Voters believe that if the election is conducted in a neutral and transparent manner, the people of Keraniganj will once again send their long-tested and trusted leader to the National Parliament.
