Allegations Against Tarique Rahman by NCP Are False: Rizvi

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has dismissed allegations brought by the National Citizen Party (NCP) against BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman as “completely false,” describing them as part of a “hyper propaganda” campaign.Rizvi made the remarks on Saturday (24 January) after paying tribute at the grave of the late Arafat Rahman Koko, the younger son of former President Ziaur Rahman, marking his death anniversary at Banani graveyard in the capital.

Speaking to reporters, Rizvi said the allegation that Tarique Rahman violated the electoral code of conduct was baseless and politically motivated. “These claims have no factual foundation and are being deliberately spread to mislead the public,” he stated.

Referring to the late Arafat Rahman Koko, Rizvi alleged that Koko was subjected to political persecution solely because he was a member of the Zia family, despite not being actively involved in politics. He claimed that during the period of the 1/11 caretaker government and later under the Awami League administration, Arafat Rahman Koko suffered both physical and psychological torture, which, according to him, ultimately contributed to his untimely death.

Addressing questions about Tarique Rahman’s postponed visit to northern Bangladesh, Rizvi clarified that the BNP chairperson had suspended the tour at the request of the Election Commission. “Tarique Rahman acted in full respect of the Election Commission’s directives. He resumed campaign activities strictly in accordance with electoral rules,” Rizvi said.

Rizvi further alleged that Tarique Rahman’s political leadership and public appeal have caused unease among rival parties. He claimed that political opponents, driven by jealousy over Tarique Rahman’s growing influence and popularity, are deliberately spreading misinformation to create confusion among voters.

The BNP leader reiterated that his party remains committed to conducting its political activities within the framework of the law and election regulations, while accusing opponents of attempting to undermine the electoral process through false narratives.
