Jaime Rahman:Women Key to Bangladesh’s Development

Barrister Jaime Rahman, daughter of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, delivered her first public speech in Bangladesh on Sunday, urging everyone to work sincerely for the country’s progress. The event, titled “Women in Nation Building: Policy, Potential, and Bangladesh’s Future,” was organized by the Dhaka Forum at the Krishibid Institute in Khamarbari, Dhaka. Jaime Rahman attended as a special guest, while the chief guest was BNP Standing Committee member Ameer Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.Tarique Rahman returned to Bangladesh last year on December 25 after nearly 17 years abroad, accompanied by his only daughter, Jaime Rahman. She completed her education in London, earning advanced degrees in law, and had previously participated in a virtual BNP program before returning to Bangladesh. Following her return, she was also present alongside her father when foreign diplomats offered condolences after the passing of her grandmother and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Her public appearance at this event marks her formal introduction into BNP politics.

In her speech, Jaime Rahman said,
"Not everyone here shares the same ideals, experiences, or perspectives. Yet we are gathered together, discussing, listening, and thinking about our country and its people. It is precisely this diversity that reflects the true beauty of democracy."

Reflecting on her first public address, she added,
"I stand here with a unique sense of emotion and responsibility. This is my first speech at the policy level in Bangladesh. I am not someone who has all the answers or solutions to every problem. Yet, I believe that even in our small capacities, we all have a sincere responsibility to contribute to society and the nation. Today, I have come to listen, learn, and move forward with a spirit of collaboration."

Emphasizing the importance of women’s participation for national development, Jaime Rahman stated,
"Bangladesh cannot advance if half of its population is left aside. Women’s involvement is essential for the country’s progress."

Her speech signals a renewed role for Jaime Rahman in Bangladesh’s political landscape, highlighting her commitment to civic engagement and national development.
