Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has attended the opening of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.The session began on Tuesday morning (22 September) local time at the UN headquarters, with heads of state and government and senior representatives from around the world taking part.Tarique Rahman was accompanied by senior members of the Bangladesh delegation.

Earlier, the prime minister and his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, attended a welcome breakfast hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres for world leaders and their spouses.

The General Debate of the 81st session runs from 22 to 26 September, with a further sitting scheduled for 28 September.
