BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has questioned the decision to undertake a long march to Rangpur with around 450 vehicles amid an ongoing fuel crisis.He made the remarks on Tuesday (September 22) at a discussion titled “The Role of the Government and the Opposition in Establishing a Democratic State.”Rizvi said the opposition had undertaken the long march to Rangpur with around 450 vehicles despite the prevailing fuel crisis. He alleged that the programme was being organised to create confusion among the public despite the prevailing global political situation.

He also claimed that some vehicles participating in the programme did not pay tolls while travelling to Rangpur.Referring to the country's fuel supply, Rizvi said most of Bangladesh's oil imports pass through the Strait of Hormuz.He said that even after adjusting fuel prices, the government would still have to provide a subsidy of Tk 70 per litre. At the same time, he alleged that the opposition was providing misleading information to the public on the issue.

Recalling the previous government, Rizvi alleged that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government was involved in enforced disappearances, killings and controlling the media. He questioned whether the opposition was once again following a similar path.

He further alleged that incidents of cocktail explosions and arson were taking place in different parts of the country. According to him, such incidents were not being carried out solely by what he described as the “fallen autocratic regime,” but were also contributing to attempts to destabilise the country through acts of violence.

Criticising Jamaat-e-Islami, Rizvi said the party had played no role in movements in support of the people. He accused the party of lacking policy and morality and alleged that it had repeatedly deceived the public.

Rizvi also highlighted various activities of the current government, saying that the functioning of what he described as a legitimate government was being obstructed amid what he called a campaign of misinformation.
