Addressing the public, the Leader of the Opposition and Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, stated that 70 percent of the people had voted 'Yes' in the referendum, but the government insulted the populace by ignoring their mandate. He announced that they have taken to the streets to seek retribution for this insult.

Speaking at a roadside rally during a long march on the Tangail Road near the Bhogra-Bypass in Gazipur city, he emphasized that the public mandate will be implemented on the soil of Bengal, and BNP will be forced to execute it. He remarked that they will drink water, but only after making it muddy, while warning the government that their current 8-point demand put forward for the people could turn into a 1-point demand at any moment if needed.

The Jamaat Amir shared that their long march toward Rangpur—a place etched with the memory of Shaheed Abu Sayed—began early in the morning. He clarified that the program was launched to demand gas for every household, keep industrial production running, ensure uninterrupted electricity, alleviate the suffering of people facing water scarcity, and eliminate extortion across roads, markets, and vehicle stands.

He further noted that the long march aims to free the corruption-ridden country from graft, oppose hegemony, and address the deteriorating law and order situation. Asking the gathered crowd if these were their demands as well, he affirmed that they had taken to the streets for the rights of 18 million people rather than any partisan agenda.

Following his address at the Bhogra Bypass, the long march proceeded toward Tangail, with another roadside rally scheduled at the Nagar Jalfai Bypass. Earlier in the morning, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman officially inaugurated the long march at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital.
