
A scientific seminar titled “Safe Hands, Safe Outcome: Avoiding Surgical Injuries in Women” was held at the Mezban Hall of Radisson Blu Chattogram, organized by the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Bangladesh (OGSB). The event took place on Wednesday, with Professor Dr. Omar Faruk Yusuf, Vice-Chancellor of Chattogram Medical University, attending as the chief guest, and Professor Dr. Nazmul Hossain, Director General of the Directorate of Medical Education, attending as the special guest.
The seminar was presided over by OGSB President Professor Dr. Feroza Begum and Professor Dr. Kamrunnesa Runa, and was conducted by Dr. Mirza Md. Asaduzzaman Ratan. The welcome address was delivered by OGSB Secretary General Professor Dr. Musarrat Sultana Sumi, while the vote of thanks was offered by Dr. Zeenat Ara Chowdhury.
The keynote presentations were delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam and Dr. Fahmida Islam Chowdhury from the Department of Urology, Bangladesh Medical University.
In his presentation titled “Tips and Tricks to Tackle Common Injury to Urinary Tract in Gynae & Obstetric Surgery”, Dr. Rafiqul Islam discussed how injuries to the urinary bladder and urethra may occur during various obstetric and gynecological surgeries, potentially leading to serious complications for both patients and surgeons. He emphasized that by adopting proper techniques and working with increased awareness, such injuries can be reduced by up to 50 percent.
