National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders Hasnat Abdullah and Dr. Tasnim Zara have expressed solidarity with the protesting MPO-listed teachers of non-government educational institutions, urging them to continue their strike until their demands are fulfilled. The two leaders visited the Central Shaheed Minar on October 17, where the teachers have been observing a hunger strike, and inquired about their condition. During the visit, they encouraged the teachers to persist in their ongoing movement for fair treatment and recognition.
The teachers have been on work stoppage for eight consecutive days, demanding an increase in house rent allowance along with two other key demands.
Delawar Hossain Azizi, Secretary of the MPO-Listed Education Nationalization Expectant Alliance, shared a photo of NCP leaders Hasnat Abdullah and Dr. Tasnim Zara on his Facebook page, noting their call for the continuation of the protest.
Meanwhile, the agitating teachers announced a ‘Hunger March’ toward the Ministry of Education today (Saturday), during which they will march holding empty plates as a symbol of deprivation.
Announcing the program on Saturday night, Azizi said,
“We are shaping the future generation of this country and strengthening the backbone of the nation. Yet we have no security or recognition in our own lives. For years, MPO-listed teachers have been given numerous promises, but nothing has materialized.”
He added,
“As teachers, we have reached a point where we have no choice but to take to the streets with empty plates. This is not just a symbolic protest—it is an expression of our deep grief, deprivation, and humiliation.”
Azizi also appealed to the government, saying,
“The government can resolve this crisis at any time. We earnestly request that you do not leave us in uncertainty. The teachers’ community seeks dignity, not pity. Despite long-standing protests, no assurance has come from the authorities. Hence, this Hunger March stands as both a symbolic protest and a voice of our collective frustration.”
