Senior Joint Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, has said that Proportional Representation (PR) is nothing but a “well-planned masterplan.” He warned that if elections are held under this system, it will only create confusion among the people. On Monday (15 September), Rizvi made these remarks while visiting cancer-stricken Hefazat-e-Islam leader Maulana Enamul Hasan Faruqi at Jamia Madania Madrasa in the capital’s Baridhara.
He said, “An Islamic party has announced a massive movement in support of PR. But this is a well-orchestrated masterplan that will bring no benefit to anyone. Politics of collusion with defeated forces will not serve the people; rather, it may create a disastrous situation.”
Recalling the 2013 Shapla Chattar incident, Rizvi added, “During the Shapla massacre, Sheikh Hasina mocked the blood of Hefazat leaders and activists. False propaganda and genocide cannot suppress Muslims.”
Earlier, BNP extended assistance to Maulana Enamul Hasan Faruqi, who is also the former personal aide of late Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Amir Allama Junaid Babunagari. On behalf of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, financial support was handed over to Faruqi for his treatment.
Rizvi further reiterated BNP’s commitment to stand beside Islamic scholars in the future, just as they have in the past.
The event was attended by Hefazat leaders including Maulana Junaid Al Habib, Maulana Azizul Haque Islamabadi, Maulana Hedayetullah Qasemi, Mufti Jaber Qasemi, Maulana Sanaullah Mahmud, Hafez Maulana Nur Mohammad, Mufti Zakir Hossain Qasemi, Maulana Saleh Ahmad Azam, and Mufti Enayet Ullah, among others.
