Tarique Rahman to Return Soon:Lutfuzzaman Babar

BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to return to Bangladesh soon, former State Minister for Home Affairs and BNP leader Lutfuzzaman Babar has said.Speaking to reporters on Sunday (14 September) after a two-hour meeting with Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Babar confirmed that discussions had taken place regarding Rahman’s return.Babar said, “The meeting between Sheikh Hasina and the head of S. Alam Group in New Delhi is being viewed as part of a conspiracy to derail the upcoming election. Along with this, several issues of concern regarding the law and order situation were also discussed.”He added, “The government is making efforts to maintain law and order, and BNP wants to cooperate with the interim government. However, there are still certain issues of concern that need to be addressed through discussions at the Secretariat.”

According to Babar, S. Alam’s meeting with Sheikh Hasina in India has raised serious suspicions. “There are concerns that conspiracies to sabotage the election are being plotted there. Alongside, the inflow of illegal arms into the country has also become a matter of grave concern,” he said.

Earlier in the day, after nearly 18 years, Lutfuzzaman Babar visited the Ministry of Home Affairs where he paid a courtesy call on Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

Lutfuzzaman Babar served as the Member of Parliament from Netrokona-4 constituency and as State Minister for Home Affairs in the BNP-led government of Begum Khaleda Zia from 2001 to 2006.
