BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has expressed confidence that the panel of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) would secure victory in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election if it were held in a free and fair manner.Speaking at a discussion meeting and rally organized by Dhaka District BNP on Wednesday (September 3) to mark the party’s 47th founding anniversary, Rizvi said,“Chhatra Dal is a student organization built on struggle, movement, and ideals. If the students of Dhaka University can exercise their voting rights freely, the JCD panel will win.”

Referring to the ongoing debate on the Proportional Representation (PR) system, he said,
“Suddenly some political parties are talking a lot about this. But, brothers, what is the PR system? Can the people of this country explain it? Can the villagers, the ordinary citizens, say what it means? It has never been used before, there is no precedent for it, and the people do not want it. The people want direct elections.”

Turning to the audience, Rizvi asked, “Do you want elections under the PR system?” — to which the party activists immediately responded with chants of “No, no.”

The meeting was presided over by Dhaka District BNP President Khondoker Abu Ashfaq and conducted by General Secretary Nipun Roy.

Also addressing the event were BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Dr. Dewan Salauddin Babu, Tamiz Uddin, Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal Vice-President Zahidul Kabir, Dr. Jahangir, Dr. Jahangir Hossain, and JCD Vice-President Dr. Towhid Awal, among others.
