Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud has been elected chairman and ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader secretary general of a new faction of the Jatiya Party (JaPa).They were elected by voice vote of around 2,000 councilors who came from across the country, at the party’s 10th National Council held at the Emmanuel Community Centre in Dhaka’s Gulshan on Saturday.In the second session of the council, the convener of the three-member Election Commission formed by JaPa, Md Zahirul Islam Zahir, announced the names of Anisul Islam Mahmud as the elected chairman and ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader as the secretary general. The other members of the commission are Mostafa Al Mahmud and Md Arifur Rahman Khan.

Kazi Firoz Rashid was elected senior co-chairman and Mujibul Haque Chunnu was elected executive chairman. Along with councilors from across the country, over 3,000 delegates were present at the council.

Earlier in the morning, the council was inaugurated through the performance of the national and party anthems. The national flag was hoisted Anisul and the party flag was hoisted by Chunnu.

The inaugural discussion of the first session was presided over by Anisul. Chief guest Anwar Hossain Manju, chairman of the Jatiya Party (JP), delivered the main speech. The welcome speech was given Ruhul Amin Howlader, while the organizational report was presented by Secretary General Chunnu.

JaPa leaders Kazi Firoz Rashid, Syed Abu Hossain Babla, Shahidur Rahman Tepa, among others, spoke at the event.
