Bangladesh has expressed deep concern over recent incidents of killings and violence against minority communities in India. Dhaka has called for impartial investigations into these incidents and urged that those responsible be brought to justice. The concern was conveyed on Sunday (December 28) by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, S.M. Mahbubul Alam.He said that incidents of brutal killings, mob lynching, arbitrary detention, and obstruction of religious practices against minority communities—including Muslims and Christians—in India are deeply alarming.
Mahbubul Alam stated that during the current month, several serious incidents have been reported, including the brutal killing of a Muslim youth, Jewel Rana, in Odisha; the killing of Mohammad Atahar Hossain in Bihar; the killing of an innocent individual in Kerala on suspicion of being Bangladeshi; and multiple cases of mob violence and attacks against Muslims and Christians in different parts of the country.
He further noted that Bangladesh is also deeply concerned about reports of mass violence against Christians in various parts of India during Christmas celebrations last week. Bangladesh views these incidents as hate crimes and targeted violence against minority communities.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized that Bangladesh expects the relevant Indian authorities to conduct impartial investigations into these incidents and ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable.
“Ensuring the safety, dignity, and rights of minority communities is the responsibility of every state,” he added.
The statement reflects Bangladesh’s growing concern over the safety of minority groups in neighboring India and underscores Dhaka’s call for adherence to human rights and the rule of law.
