BNP Acting Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that a conspiracy is underway to create anarchy, carry out bomb attacks and engage in sabotage across the country using a large amount of illicit money allegedly siphoned abroad and concealed within the country during the Awami League government’s tenure. He said the defeated fascist forces were attempting to destabilize the country and disrupt its progress. He urged pro-democracy political parties and the general public to remain vigilant around the clock.
Rizvi made the remarks on Tuesday (October 13) while addressing a discussion and award ceremony organized by the Bangladesh Janadhikar Party at the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, in the capital. The event was titled “The Role of Politicians and Professionals in the Protracted Anti-Autocracy Movement and the July Uprising.”
Rizvi said the defeated fascist forces had amassed a substantial amount of illicit money. Although a large portion of the money had been transferred abroad, he claimed that some of it remained inside the country.
He alleged that attempts were being made to implement a blueprint for destabilizing the country by channeling this black money into disruptive activities. However, he said, the current government and law enforcement agencies remained alert and were gradually foiling the conspirators’ plans.
Criticizing the economic activities of the previous Awami League government, the BNP leader said that every sector of the country, including banking and insurance, had been devastated during Sheikh Hasina’s rule.
He claimed that the country’s defaulted loan volume currently stood at Tk 607,000 crore. According to Rizvi, individuals close to the Awami League and Sheikh Hasina had effectively looted public funds under the guise of loans.
Rizvi said the current government was working to rebuild the country despite the enormous debt burden and the fragile state of the economy.
Praising the role of young people and student leaders in the July Uprising and the prolonged anti-autocracy movement, he said their extraordinary courage had paved the way for the restoration of democracy. He added that the state and the nation would remember their contributions with respect for generations to come.
