Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, Health Affairs Secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), visited BNP Labour Affairs Secretary A.M. Nazim Uddin at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Wednesday to inquire about his health condition.Nazim Uddin has been undergoing treatment for uncontrolled diabetes and diabetic necrotizing fasciitis in his right leg. He was initially admitted to BIRDEM Hospital, where he received primary treatment.Later, for advanced medical care, he travelled to Bangkok, Thailand, but due to the high cost of treatment abroad, he returned home, placing his trust once again in local physicians. He was subsequently admitted to BSMMU under the care of Associate Professor Dr. Ashraful Islam.

According to hospital sources, two separate medical boards were formed for his treatment. Following the boards’ recommendations, three major surgeries were successfully performed, including an above-knee amputation of his right leg.

It is to be noted that on September 29, Nazim Uddin was admitted to BIRDEM Hospital in a critical condition under the supervision of vascular surgery specialists. At that time, he was also suffering from septicemia, along with complications such as low albumin levels and electrolyte imbalance.
Doctors have confirmed that his overall condition is now stable and out of immediate danger.

Dr. Rafiqul Islam informed reporters that BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has been closely monitoring Nazim Uddin’s treatment from the very beginning.

Nazim Uddin and his family have expressed gratitude to all well-wishers and requested prayers from the people of Bangladesh for his full recovery.
