Building a Self-Reliant Bangladesh Possible Through Cooperatives: Chief Adviser

Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has said that it is possible to build a self-reliant Bangladesh through cooperative-based economic activities. In a message issued on the occasion of the 54th National Cooperative Day, he said the current interim government has undertaken a range of initiatives to modernize and invigorate the cooperative sector. By promoting cooperative activities in agriculture, fisheries, livestock, savings and credit, and cottage industries, the nation can move forward toward self-reliance.

Dr. Yunus noted that this year’s National Cooperative Day is being observed today (November 1) across the country with due dignity under the theme “Cooperatives Build the Country in Equality and Justice.” He extended his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all cooperators and the people of Bangladesh on this occasion.

“Ensuring social participation is essential for the successful implementation of any development initiative for the nation and its people,” he said, adding that “by harnessing the vast potential of cooperatives, we can easily achieve this goal.”

The Chief Adviser observed that cooperative societies are not merely financial institutions but also play a multifaceted role in addressing various social issues. He emphasized that the cooperative movement is indispensable for improving the living standards of the underprivileged, developing skilled human resources, and accelerating the country’s economic growth.

“The interim government is working to build an inclusive, just, and sustainable society,” Dr. Yunus added. “Cooperatives have a vital role to play in establishing a new, inequality-free Bangladesh.”

In his message, the Chief Adviser wished every success for all programs undertaken to mark the 54th National Cooperative Day 2025.
