BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has called upon party leaders and activists to pledge unity and refrain from using the party for personal gain. Speaking virtually from London as the chief guest at the triennial conference of Kishoreganj District BNP on Saturday (20 September), Tarique Rahman asked party members to make two firm commitments: to accept any decision made by the party leadership and to ensure that no one uses the BNP’s name for individual interests. The conference, held at the district stadium, was inaugurated by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, with several central leaders also present. Emphasizing the need for collective efforts ahead of the upcoming national polls, Tarique Rahman said, “Just as we have made this council a success through unity, if we can remain united until February, we will be able to secure a favorable public verdict.” He urged members to accept party decisions in the same way a family accepts the judgment of its elders: “The policymaking body of the BNP is the guardian of this large political family. When they make a decision, it is the duty of every member to stand by it.”
The BNP leader also warned against exploitation of the party’s name for selfish motives. “We must all remain vigilant so that no one uses our name, or the party’s name, to serve personal interests or to mislead the people about us,” he said.
Addressing those contesting for party positions, he reminded them that just as councilors are important in internal elections, the general public will be crucial in the upcoming national election. “We must stay with the people, stand beside them, and keep them with us,” he added.
Finally, Tarique Rahman made the audience take a two-point pledge:
To remain united under any decision of the party, no matter the circumstances.
To remain vigilant so that no one can misuse the BNP for personal gain.
