This country belongs to everyone, there will be no discrimination: Army Chief

Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman has reaffirmed that Bangladesh belongs to all its citizens, pledging there will be no discrimination based on religion, caste, or ethnicity. Speaking at the inauguration of the Janmashtami procession at Dhakeshwari National Temple on Saturday, August 16, General Waker-uz-Zaman said: "For hundreds of years, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, Bengalis, and hill communities have lived together in peace and harmony in this country. All rights and privileges of the nation are equally guaranteed to everyone."Addressing followers of various religious traditions, the Army Chief assured: "We will always stand by your side. Armed forces are deployed across the country, and we are committed to working alongside you. You will live in peace and celebrate your religious festivals with joy and dignity. We will share in your happiness, and if needed, provide all possible support."

He added: "Today, we renew our pledge – to uphold an atmosphere of harmony, mutual respect, and goodwill. This country belongs to everyone. We will live together in peace and unity."

Marking the occasion of Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, General Waker-uz-Zaman expressed hope that the divine ideals of truth, justice, and compassion embodied by Lord Krishna would spread throughout the nation.

"We will move forward together, guided by these timeless values," he said.

Reflecting on his personal connection to the area, the Army Chief said: "I grew up in the Azimpur-Plassey neighbourhood. This place holds many cherished memories from my childhood."

The vibrant Janmashtami procession began at the Plassey intersection and concluded at Bahadur Shah Park in the capital, drawing large crowds in celebration.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Hassan Mahmud Khan, along with other dignitaries and members of the armed forces, attended the event, underscoring the military's public commitment to national unity and interfaith harmony.
