Over the course of his professional career, Shibly has worked with several leading media organizations in Bangladesh. In addition, he served as General Secretary of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), one of the country's largest organizations of journalists, in 2004. During the tenure of the Four-Party Alliance Government, Saleh Shibly served as First Secretary (Press) at the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata, India. He also worked as Press Secretary when Tarique Rahman was serving as the Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Shibly has also made significant contributions to research and writing. Several of his articles on women's empowerment in Bangladesh were published in Asian Bridge, a magazine issued by the Kitakyushu Forum on Asian Women (KFAW) in Japan. Furthermore, he has served as a Non-Resident Fellow at the Australia-based Sydney Policy and Research Centre, contributing to political and policy-oriented research initiatives.
On February 18, 2026, Saleh Shibly was appointed Press Secretary to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh through an official gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration. The appointment granted him the rank and status of a Secretary to the Government.
According to the official notification, he was appointed on a contractual basis subject to the condition that he sever all professional affiliations with any business, government, semi-government, autonomous, or private institution. His appointment will remain effective for the duration of the Prime Minister's tenure or until the Prime Minister decides otherwise, whichever occurs first.
