BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has called for maintaining the democratic process in the country at any cost, urging all to work together in unity by setting aside differences of opinion.He made the remarks on Saturday (January 10) while exchanging greetings with editors, senior journalists, and political correspondents from various newspapers at a hotel in Banani, Dhaka.Tarique Rahman said, “We have seen the consequences of violence and revenge on August 5. Differences of opinion should not turn into divisions or become a cause of discord. Everyone must work together.” He noted that many difficult challenges lie ahead and that differences of opinion are natural in politics. However, he emphasized the importance of resolving these differences through dialogue. “We had problems, and we still do. But we do not want to return to the situation that existed before August 5,” he added.
Sharing his experience of visiting several areas, including Savar, after returning to the country, the BNP chairperson said the new generation is seeking guidance and a sense of hope. Referring to the spirit of the Liberation War of 1971, the mass uprising of 1990, and the mass movement of 2024, he expressed hope that working with these ideals in mind would lead the country toward the right direction.
Addressing the issue of security, Tarique Rahman said that ensuring safety is a right for both women and men, and it is the responsibility of the state to guarantee it.
He further stated, “Differences of opinion will exist, but the democratic process must remain functional. There must be accountability.” He also announced that from January 22, the BNP will reach out to the public with its political plans, welcoming discussion and constructive criticism to help address the people’s problems.
