Love for Animals Is an Essential Part of Humanity: Rizvi

Senior Joint Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, has stated that love for animals is not merely an emotional expression but an essential component of humanity. He made the remarks on Tuesday (16 December) during a meeting with animal lover “Ruhul” in the Mohammadpur area of the capital. The meeting was held following the guidance of BNP Acting Chairman and Chief Patron of the Bangladesh Animal Welfare Association (BAWA), Tarique Rahman.

Rizvi said that Almighty Allah did not create any animal without purpose. He emphasized that maintaining environmental balance requires the coexistence of humans, animals, birds, and plants. “Today we often talk about love for trees and birds, but feeding and caring for animals selflessly is a great blessing and a deeply humane act,” he said.

He further noted that animals—particularly dogs—are often neglected or mistreated by society, despite the fact that they play a crucial role in protecting people. “Dogs frequently alert communities during robberies or dangerous situations at night. From large predators like tigers to the smallest creatures, all animals contribute to maintaining ecological balance,” Rizvi added. He also mentioned that animals sometimes protect vulnerable individuals, including children, from potential threats.

Referring to the activities of Mohammadpur resident “Ruhul Bhai,” Rizvi said that caring for cats, dogs, and other animals despite limited personal resources is not merely an act of compassion toward animals but a rare and commendable example of humanity. He prayed for Ruhul Bhai’s prosperity and well-being.

During the event, Rizvi also expressed concern over the country’s recent law and order situation. Referring to a recent daylight attack on a political candidate, he said ensuring the safety of citizens is the government’s responsibility. “If public security cannot be guaranteed, the country may once again move toward instability,” he warned.

He called upon all patriotic, humanitarian, and democracy-loving citizens to remain united and urged the government to stay vigilant at all times.

Those present at the meeting included BNP Media Cell member Atikur Rahman Rumon; Member Secretary of “Amra BNP Paribar,” agriculturist Moksedul Momin Mithun; Bangladesh Animal Welfare Association representative Adnan Azad; Joint Vice President of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, Dr. Zahidul Kabir Zahid; former Convener of Dhaka Metropolitan East Chhatra Dal, Sheikh Khalid Hasan Jakki; along with other party leaders and activists.

It is noteworthy that “Ruhul Bhai” from Mohammadpur has recently drawn widespread attention on social media for independently spending approximately BDT 32,800 to regularly feed dogs, cats, and feline species in the area—an initiative widely praised as a significant act of compassion and social responsibility.
