Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) organized a ceremony to honor the children of its members who achieved GPA-5 in the 2025 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and 2024 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations. Scholarships and awards were also presented during the event held on Tuesday (November 11) at the DRU Shafikul Kabir Auditorium. The program was presided over by DRU President Abu Saleh Akon and conducted by General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel. The chief guest, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor Dr. Niyaz Ahmad Khan, addressed the students, while Engineer Mokhlesur Rahman, Chairman of SBAC Bank PLC, delivered a special speech.
In his speech, Professor Dr. Niyaz Ahmad Khan said, “You are the future of the country and the driving force of national development. Do not limit yourselves to just achieving GPA; be guided by ethics, humanity, patriotism, and a sense of responsibility. When you are enlightened, your families, society, and the nation will shine. Hard work is essential, and success will follow if you study diligently.” He also mentioned the role of journalists in the DUCSU elections.
Special guest Engineer Mokhlesur Rahman emphasized, “Journalists occupy crucial positions in the country. They have many opportunities to advance the nation. I hope journalists, as the conscience of the nation, will contribute to building the country. Students are the nation’s future, and the future of Bangladesh depends on today’s children. If they are provided with proper education and guidance, Bangladesh will progress on the right path. These children will illuminate their families, society, and the country. I am grateful to DRU for giving me the opportunity to spend time with them.”
The welcome speech was delivered by DRU Welfare Secretary Rafik Mridha. Other attendees included Office Secretary Rafik Rafi, Women’s Affairs Secretary Rozina Rozi, Publication and Promotion Secretary Mizan Chowdhury, IT & Training Secretary Borhan Uddin, Hospitality Secretary Mohammad Shalim Ullah (Mezbah), and Executive Members Md. Junayed Hossain (Junayed Shishir), Aminul Haque Bhuiya, Suman Chowdhury, and Md. Salim Ullah (S.U. Salim).
