The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a series of programmes to observe November 7, the historic National Revolution and Solidarity Day, with due solemnity. The programmes include hoisting party flags across the country, paying tribute at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, and holding colourful rallies nationwide.BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programmes at a press conference on Monday afternoon following a joint meeting with the party’s affiliated and associate organisations at the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka.
According to the announced schedule, party flags will be hoisted at 6:00 am on November 7 at the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan and all party offices across the country. At 11:00 am, party leaders and activists will pay tribute at the graves of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar by placing wreaths and offering Fateha.
A colourful central rally will also be held in Dhaka to mark the occasion. Similar rallies will be organised in every district and upazila across the country, Rizvi said.
He added that November 6 had been tentatively scheduled for a central discussion meeting to highlight the significance of the day. The party will also publish special posters, while the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and other affiliated and associate organisations will arrange drawing exhibitions and various social and political programmes.
Highlighting the historical background of November 7, Rizvi said the uprising of soldiers and the people in 1975 had helped the country overcome a period of extreme uncertainty, one-party rule under Baksal, and hegemonic influence. He claimed that the events of November 7 had paved the way for the restoration of multiparty democracy, press freedom and people's right to freedom of expression.
Rizvi further said that the spirit of November 7 had inspired students, workers and the general public to unite during the July-August movement in 2024 and bring about the fall of what he described as fascism.
Responding to questions from journalists about the current political situation, the BNP leader issued a stern warning against attempts to create disorder in the country. He said those attempting to destabilise the country by joining forces with defeated fascist elements or taking shelter under any clandestine organisation would have to bear responsibility for their actions. He warned that strict action would be taken against those creating disorder in accordance with the country's existing laws.
Among those present at the press conference were BNP Joint Secretaries General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Khairul Kabir Khokon and Abdus Salam Azad; Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee; Imran Saleh Prince; Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu; Publicity Secretary and State Minister for Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku; Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal Chief Coordinator Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas; JASAS Convener and actor Helal Khan; Jubo Dal President Monayem Munna; Mohila Dal General Secretary Sultana Ahmed; Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir; and Dhaka South City BNP Member Secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin, among other party leaders.
