BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has called for spreading harmony and fraternity among different communities in Bangladesh. In a video message posted on his Facebook page on Sunday (September 28) marking the beginning of Durga Puja, one of the most significant religious festivals of the Hindu community, he conveyed his greetings.“Durga Puja, the most important religious festival of the Hindu community in Bangladesh and across the world, begins today. On this special occasion, I extend my heartfelt greetings to the Hindu community of our country,” Rahman said. He added, “People of different faiths, groups, and communities across the country celebrate their religions with joy and enthusiasm. This is a unique expression of our nation’s long-standing religious and social values and traditions. As Bangladeshis, we can see that this fosters friendship, harmony, fraternity, and goodwill among people of different faiths and communities.”
Referring to the responsibility of the state, Rahman stated, “According to the constitution, it is the duty of the state to ensure the safety of all citizens regardless of political affiliation, faith, or ethnicity. The holy Hadith also instructs that anyone who oppresses non-Muslims under state protection, deprives them of their rights, or imposes undue hardship will be opposed by the Prophet himself on the Day of Judgment.”
He further emphasized, “As citizens of a Bangladesh free from fascism, it is our moral duty to uphold the safety and dignity of fellow citizens. I urge the law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant so that no communal elements can attempt to create unrest during the Puja celebrations.”
In his message to the Hindu community, he said, “Celebrate the festival with joy, safely and peacefully, across the country. Spread the message of harmony and fraternity everywhere. The BNP believes in the principle: religion is a personal matter, but the state belongs to all; religion is personal, but security is the right of everyone.”
Concluding his message, Rahman reiterated, “On behalf of the BNP, the democratic party of the people of Bangladesh, I once again extend my warmest greetings to the Hindu community on the occasion of Durga Puja.”
