BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has described the Awami League as a “terrorist and barbaric political party,” urging the people of Bangladesh to unite and resist what he called “evil forces” in order to restore democracy.Speaking at a protest rally organized by Desh Bachao Manush Bachao Andolon in front of the National Press Club on Thursday (25 September), Dudu said:“No matter how powerful the international backing Awami League receives, the people of Bangladesh will never forgive them, nor will they allow them to rise again. We must stand united against this destructive force to ensure the path for democracy.”Dudu accused the Awami League of being “uncivilized and fascist in nature,” claiming that the party has always acted against democracy while pretending otherwise. Referring to the post-independence period, he alleged that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established the Rakkhi Bahini, during whose tenure about 40,000 opposition activists were killed. He also cited famine and the imposition of one-party rule under BAKSAL as examples of authoritarian rule, which he claimed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina continues today.
He further alleged that over the past 15 years, Sheikh Hasina has engaged in “unprecedented plundering,” carried out enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and established secret torture cells like “Aynaghar.” He mentioned missing BNP leaders Ilias Ali and Chowdhury Alam as examples of ongoing repression.
Referring to the recent incident in New York involving Awami League activists, Dudu said the episode proved that the ruling party has “no remorse even after a year.” He argued that despite committing “genocide, repression, and limitless corruption,” Awami League leaders have never apologized to the nation or the world.
“Allah forgives His servants’ mistakes, but Awami League has never sought forgiveness from the Creator or the people for its corruption, killings, and atrocities. They are, in fact, an anti-Islamic force,” Dudu said.
Calling on the current government, he stressed that the upcoming national election must be held within February. “Under no circumstances should February pass without an election,” he warned.
The protest rally was chaired by Desh Bachao Manush Bachao Andolon President K.M. Rokibul Islam Ripon. Among others present were Bangladesh Labour Party leader Md. Faruk Rahman, BNP Executive Committee member Prof. Alamgir Hossain, Azaharul Islam, former MP Nur Afroz Jyoti, and former Krishak Dal office secretary S.K. Sadi.
