BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the enemies of the nation are once again trying to raise their heads. Taking advantage of the current political uncertainty and despair, they are creating chaos and spreading false propaganda on social media. He made the remarks on Sunday (November 2) after a discussion meeting held at the BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan, marking the “November 7 Sipahi-Janata Revolution Day.”
Mirza Fakhrul said that on this day in 1975, the Sipahi-Janata Revolution freed the late President Ziaur Rahman from captivity. “The conspirators against the country had detained him, but patriotic soldiers and people united to set him free, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Bangladesh’s history,” he added.
Under Ziaur Rahman’s leadership, Bangladesh emerged from the “bottomless basket” label and became a nation of potential, he said, noting that it was during Zia’s time that the country began its journey toward becoming an “emerging tiger.”
The BNP Secretary General further said that Ziaur Rahman, who declared the nation’s independence on March 26, 1971, was a rare and courageous leader in Bangladesh’s history. “Later, under Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s rule, a one-party system called BAKSAL was established. Administrative failures and rampant corruption during that period led to the catastrophic famine of 1974, which claimed countless lives,” he added.
Mirza Fakhrul also said that following Zia’s ideals, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman are striving to unite the nation. “Even from abroad, Tarique Rahman is leading the movement for democracy and freedom,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, Mirza Fakhrul stated, “November 7 is a highly significant day in our national and political life. It was on this day that the spirit of the nation was awakened. Guided by the philosophy of the late President Ziaur Rahman, we continue our journey toward fulfilling the dream of a democratic, independent, and sovereign Bangladesh.”
