BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed has said, “If we do not know the history of our forefathers, we will not be able to develop patriotism or love for our country. Without that knowledge, there can be no inspiration or motivation in education.”He made this remark on Saturday (October 25) while addressing as the chief guest at a reception ceremony for GPA-5 achievers, organized by the Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Haque Foundation at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium in Dhaka.Rizvi Ahmed said, “You have witnessed the student uprising and the mass movement of July last year. Young boys and girls of your age sacrificed their lives for the country. A student named Mughda was shot but still carried water for her fellow protester — that is the true spirit of sacrifice. Only by knowing this history can genuine patriotism grow within you.”
Highlighting the contributions of Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Haque, Rizvi said, “He was a great man who devoted his life to spreading education among Muslims. His father was one of the first Muslims to graduate with a B.A. degree in 1862. Sher-e-Bangla himself achieved a Master’s degree in Mathematics with only six months of preparation — a rare feat in academic history.”
He further stated, “During his tenure as Prime Minister, Fazlul Haque introduced the roll-number system in examinations, replacing names with roll numbers to ensure fair evaluation regardless of religion or social background. He also made it mandatory for every school to appoint Arabic or Persian teachers to enhance employment opportunities for Bengali Muslims. Without knowing the contributions of such great figures, the new generation cannot recognize their roots.”
At the event, GPA-5 achievers from Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Ideal School and College, and South Point School and College were awarded crests and certificates.
Nuhaysa Mahmud Haque, a student of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, said, “We are grateful to our teachers for their dedication and care. My father has worked tirelessly for us. Please pray so that I can achieve even better results in the future.”
Md. Irfan Ahmed from Ideal School and College remarked, “Our success is the result of our parents’ and teachers’ constant support and hard work.”
Ahnab Amin Orko from South Point School and College added, “Good results don’t come from studying alone; discipline and dedication are equally important.”
The event was presided over by the organization’s Chief Adviser Margbhob Morshed, while its President Engineer Abu Hanif served as the keynote speaker. Also present were SM Abdul Halim, Advisor to the BNP Chairperson; Ziaur Rahman, General Secretary of the foundation; Sabina Yamin, Joint Secretary of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal; and Dr. Toufiq Awal, Vice-President of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
