At least 16 people were injured in a clash between activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the Mirpur area of the capital on Tuesday evening, creating tension in the locality.The incident took place in front of Al Mobarak Mosque in the Pirerbagh 60 Feet area of Mirpur after Maghrib prayers on Tuesday (January 20), according to witnesses.Eyewitnesses said an altercation broke out between Jamaat activists and local BNP leaders and activists shortly after evening prayers, which later turned into a violent clash. As a result, at least 16 Jamaat members were reportedly injured.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Mirpur Zone of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Moinul Haque, confirmed the incident. He said police rushed to the spot after receiving reports of the clash.
“The police are currently at the scene. The exact cause of the clash is yet to be known,” he added.
The situation remained tense in the area as of the filing of this report, while law enforcement agencies were working to bring the situation under control.
