Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the BNP and the eldest son of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, has expressed profound gratitude to people from all walks of life for their prayers and heartfelt support for his mother’s recovery. Begum Khaleda Zia is currently in the CCU of a hospital, critically ill and receiving intensive medical care. At the same time, he shared that, like any son, he too has a deep longing to be by his mother’s side during this crisis, though his ability to make such a decision is limitedOn Saturday morning, through a post from his personal Facebook account, Tarique Rahman conveyed these thoughts—sparking widespread discussion across social media shortly after it was published.

In his statement, he mentioned that Begum Khaleda Zia remains in a critical and highly vulnerable condition under intensive care. People across the country, irrespective of political affiliations, are sincerely praying for her recovery.

He wrote, “We, the Zia family, express our heartfelt gratitude for the prayers and love shown to the highly respected Begum Khaleda Zia. We earnestly request everyone to continue praying for her swift recovery.”

He added that medical teams both at home and abroad are providing the highest level of professional care. He also mentioned that several friendly nations have expressed interest in extending support, including the possibility of advanced medical treatment.

The most emotional part of his statement came when he spoke about his desire to return home and be beside his mother. He wrote, “In such a crisis, I too, like any child, have a deep desire to feel my mother’s touch. But fulfilling this wish is not entirely within my control.”

He further stated that he is unable to elaborate on this sensitive matter due to constraints, though he hinted that political realities are causing delays in fulfilling this desire.
Expressing hope, he added that once the political situation reaches a favorable point, he and his family expect that his long and anxious wait for his return to his homeland will finally come to an end.

Begum Khaleda Zia has been suffering from various health complications for a long time. Her current condition has caused deep concern nationwide. She is now undergoing treatment in the CCU of Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. The party’s Secretary General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, stated yesterday that her condition is extremely critical.
