Killings Have Stopped, Criminal Activities Continue: Rizvi

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that although there are no state-backed enforced disappearances or killings in the country at present, criminal activities continue unabated. He alleged that the government is not taking any effective measures to combat crime and terrorism. Instead, the authorities are showing negligence and a relaxed attitude, which he claimed has led to incidents such as the killing of Jubo Dal leader Kibria. He made these remarks on Saturday (22 November) after paying tribute at the mausoleum of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman, accompanied by the newly formed committee of Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP.

Rizvi also expressed hope that the government’s position regarding the upcoming February election would remain unchanged. Referring to recent casualties caused by an earthquake, he said, “Ten people died in the earthquake yesterday. The previous government failed to ensure public safety. The capital, Dhaka, is now at serious risk, and unauthorized approval of high-rise buildings is largely responsible for this situation.”

Earlier, Rizvi visited the hospital to inquire about the condition of Ershad Ullah, the BNP-nominated candidate for Chattogram-8, who was shot during an election campaign. He checked on his physical condition and spoke with those concerned.

“Opening fire on Ershad Ullah in broad daylight with the intent to kill is extremely alarming,” he said. Rizvi demanded the immediate arrest of those involved and called for strict legal action.
